David Angelo Named “New York’s Funniest Stand-Up at the 2017 New York Comedy Festival

Comedian David Angelo out-joked ten other finalists at the tenth annual New York’s Funniest Stand-Up competition at Carolines on Broadway on Saturday, November 11.   The competition, launched in 2008 as part of the annual New York Comedy Festival, is open to any and all New York-based comedians who think they have what it takes to make ’em laugh here — and anywhere.  This year’s competition — hosted by The Roastmaster General Jeff Ross — featured a group of The Big Apple’s best and brightest young comedians who competed over three semi-final rounds to make it to finals to vie for the coveted title of New York’s Funniest Stand-Up.   In addition to Angelo, the other competition finalists who performed were Jocelyn Chia, Francis Ellis, Katie Hannigan, Kevin Iso, Frank Liotti, JP McDade, Usama Siddique, Tom Thakkar, Martin Urbano and Jacob Williams.

In addition to winning the New York’s Funniest Stand-Up competition, David’s other accomplishments include a 2012 Writers Guild nomination, a 2011 Prime Time Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series, and a 2009 Time Out New York “Joke of the  Year” Award. He has performed stand-up at the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland.

He’s appeared on CBS’s 2 Broke Girls, Fox News’ Red Eye and Comedy Central’s Mash-Up, as well as his ow Comedy Central show Nothin’s Easy.

Past winners of New York’s Funniest Stand-Up competition are Julian McCullough (2008), Myq Kaplan (2009), Nate Bargatze (2010), Dan Soder (2011),Michael Che (2012), Joe Machi (2013), Rickey Velez (2014), Matt Pavich (2015), and Tim Dillon (2016).
