Shakir “Shak” Standley, was born and raised in Chicago, where he went to college to study English Language and Literature. Out of college, he followed his first passion, music, where he produced records for various artists that you’ve probably never heard of. Broadening his artistic reach, he moved to New York in 2011 to pursue his revised dream of becoming a television comedy writer and stand-up comedian. The two worlds collided when rapper Ice-T saw Shak performing his unique and irreverent comedy on Youtube, and decided to cast him in a leading role for his band Body Count’s music video. He then caught the attention of MTV2 and was cast on the hit show “Nick Cannon Presents Wild n Out”, where he also taped a comedy special. Not long after, he was selected to the “Last Comic Standing” season 8 invitational. With the knowledge that the viewers needed more Shak, they brought him back for season 9, where he advanced to the semi-finals. His distinctive, absurdist brand of stand-up has led him to become a fast rising performer in New York comedy scene.
