Gerald Kelly was born in the Bronx, New York; the eldest of four and raised by a single mom. As a youngster, his point of view about life made him a class favorite.  Gerald would often captivate the students and teachers by telling stories, spontaneously poking fun at anyone who dared to challenge his comic ability. He even impersonated teachers’ voices on the P.A. “This is a fire drill!!” All hell would break loose and he’d disappear into the school crowd without getting caught. Actually, he would be the first to stand near his teacher outside the school, “Are they going to send us home? Are we going to be safe?” One of his teachers looked down at him one day and said, “Young man, you should be a comedian.”

Kelly attended Dewitt Clinton High School, starting in the ninth grade. He excelled in football, basketball and boxing, lettering in all and was “All City” in football. He worked an after school job in the off seasons and saved money to buy clothing.  Only out of school, did Gerald continue his comedic antics. It never left him.

Today, Kelly has a multi-dimensional career. He’s performed on stages all across the globe and in all the major clubs, churches, colleges and universities across America, including Caroline’s on Broadway, the Funnybones and Improvs and has headlined as one of the NY King’s of Comedy. Gerald has appeared on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central, Showtime at the Apollo, BET’s Comic View, Conan O’Brien Show and Chocolate Sundaes [hosted by Tommy Davidson]. His movies include, “The Other Brother” and “Death of a Dynasty”, “Cookout 2” and “Budz House” as well as “Budz House Backstage [hosted by Kevin Hart]”.” Gerald’s host of DVDs include: “Comedy in The Hood,” (which has been a big seller),   “Laugh Bandits: No. 1”, “Gerald Kelly Live in New York”, “Gospel Comedy All-Stars, 1 & 2” and his latest, “Gerald Kelly on Broadway”.  He’s also been on Radio 107.5 WBLS (NYC) as a morning show co-host and in Hartford, Connecticut at Hot 93.7 WZMX as part of the Morning Team. Kelly has also produced and been recognized as a screenwriter.

In his life, he’s struggled to survive; been through life and death, but he’s always taken tragic situations and put them into comedy. “Laughter is healing for the soul, and I have been blessed with that gift to bring some joy and some humor to the everyday situations that people go through”.

Now with a new appreciation for the three L’s [Life, Love & Laughter]; he’s engaged to music journalist, Mara Hunter. They also have started their own Management Company, Hunter Kelly Entertainment & Consulting and are working on two community initiatives, “Calling All Fathers”, which focuses on the importance of father’s being present in their children’s lives and “Microphones Up, Guns Down” which focuses on using the gifts and abilities that God has placed in young people to end the war on Gun Violence in underserved communities. Gerald is thankful and gives all praises to God for allowing him success in his career. He just wants to continue to be a vessel and give back what has been given to him.
