Bad Parenting 01Alec Baldwin took a break from his duties as Saturday Night Live‘s resident President Trump on March 23 to take the stage at Carolines on Broadway  to host Bad Parent with Alec Baldwin, a live stand-up show exploring the ups and downs of parenthood with personal stories from comedians Karen Bergreen, Tom Cotter, Drew Fraser, Judy Gold, and Caroline Rhea.  Baldwin hosted the show, which was presented by WNYC Studios.  Rhea joked:  “I had my daughter at 44 and now I’m 38.  But I really don’t have any bad parenting stories because…I’m in denial.”  She told of how her daughter was conceived during a Giants Super Bowl victory and quipped:  “I love Eli Manning.  We have a lot in common… we both know what it’s like to score with only seconds left on the clock.”   America’s Got Talent runner-up Cotter, father of twins, joked:  “My wife and I always dreamed of having twins.  Only I thought it would be the Olsen Twins in a hot tub.”  Bergreen took shots at her own kids:“Mommy when I grow up, if I don’t have a baby, you’re just going to be an old lady… and I said you’re right, and instinct tells me with that level of charm, you’re going to be my roommate.” Gold lamented about her son wanting to get a tattoo of their zip code on his bicep.  “Henry!  You’re Jewish!    You are not getting numbers tattooed on your arm!”   Baldwin, who appeared to be having a ball on stage, teased the possibility of more themed stand-up shows in the future.   Portions of the Bad Parent show will be broadcast on WNYC Radio.

The Ms. Foundation for Women and Carolines on Broadway teamed up once again for the 21st Annual Comedy Night at Carolines on October 25.  The evening, which was themed “Laughing Our Way to the Revolution!,” was hosted by the hilarious Judy Gold, who pulled no punches when discussing Donald Trump.  ”I hate that orange piece of s***… more than Toledo!”   The hilarious show also included performances by Kate Clinton, Katie Goodman, Aparna Nancherla, Hadiyah Robinson, Liza Treyger, Michelle Wolf, and Sasheer Zamata.  Clinton pulled the ultimate bait-and-switch when stated:  ”I’m very sorry to say this is the last comedy event for the Ms. Foundation here at Carolines…” which was met by a collective sigh from the audience.   But she quickly finished her statement:  ”… without a woman as president of the United States!”  The relieved audience quickly broke out into wild applause.

The mission of the Ms. Foundation for Women builds women’s collective power to realize a nation of justice for all.  The Ms. Foundation’s work is guided by its vision of a just and safe world where power and possibility are not limited by gender, race, class, sexual orientation, disability or age.  The Ms. Foundation believes that equality and inclusion are the cornerstones of a true democracy in which the worth and dignity of every person are valued.
